I thought, since Retevis and Radioddity are selling these radios now, that firmware will be polished. But I was wrong. The current version’s (kydera 2021-06-23) problems I found.
1. Roaming:
- can’t turn it of (in some cases it works if you switch channels and pressing roaming on/off preset button)
- it starts immediately after you switch channels, so manual selection is not possible. Should wait one preset roaming interval, before starting, and check the currently selected repeater first
- when it find’s a repeater it prompts OK, but then the screen goes black (top line visible)
2. APRS (where to begin):
- Analog APRS is not working if channel is digital (even if you set “Appendix→APRS→APRS Type” to analog)
- You can’t select (not visible) Analog Channel as default in “CPS→DMR Service”, I know it says “DMR Service” but I would like to have global Analog APRS
- “Appendix → APRS → APRS Type” should switch automatically (in regards to channel setup)
- DAPRS works only with dedicated programmed channel and set in “CPS->DMR Service” “GPS Interval” and “GPS Channel”
- Setting the global GPS (above) to off and instead using “CPS→APRS” menu to setup a DMR report channel (“Current Channel”,”%APRSTGID%”, “Slot 2”, “Private Call”) and
then selecting this option in digital channel APRS section, does send something, but it’s not getting on aprs.fi. Also the prompt is different, on Global GPS it say’s GPS sending …, On per channel setting it say’s APRS sending …
3. Zones/Channels
- who thought that channels should be contained in zones? I think the best option is to have a channel list, and then zone list where you can map existing channels to zones, so one channel can be in multiple zones
- and don’t get me started on import/export, zone moving, channel moving, etc …
I know the challenges of communicating such problems to China, the phrase “Lost in Translation” comes to mind, Catherine is trying, but usually misses the point. Maybe some ham knows Chinese and can explain it to them better.
