Hi all;
These radios (Kydera CR-300UV, Retivis RT73, and Radioddity DB25-D), with the latest CPS, offer to upload (write) the "Ham Groups". PLUS there is a separate sub-Menu item for these groups within the Contacts Menuing on the radio itself.
Can someone illuminate on how this list is used by the firmware/radio user AND why it has an on-off setting in the sub-Menu itself?
I'm NOT asking about how or why the CPS allows you to import these same Ham Groups into the Contacts list; albeit at a reduced number.
i.e. I have this enabled on the radio yet it doesn't seem to be of use except to use up memory space in the radio....WHAT AM I MISSING ?
TIA and vy 73 om's de Bob W9YA

www.ailunce.com/blog/RX-Ham-Groups-on-Retevis-RT73-Mobile-RadioSee the link above for a bit of an explanation.. albeit maybe hard to understand.. -- The way I read it is it is like a 'selective promiscuous mode' where in that, if you upload a list of talkgroups to the Ham Groups and have it enabled. The radio will receive from these groups on any channel, regardless of any contacts you have in the currently selected RX Group. I have tried it and it could be useful depending on how you have the radio programmed. Due to the 7 second limit on manual dial hang time, I have mine programmed with each talkgroup I want to use on a separate channel, per repeater zone. So the Ham Groups wouldn't be useful to me as if I have a channel selected with the TG235 selected I don't want to hear any other talkgroup. I have the first channel in each zone as a generic receive channel, where I have an 'ALL TG' RX Group selected so that I could listen to any talkgroup currently active on that repeater.

Thanks for the reply Dave !! Just what I needed OM. I'm gonna play with this, as I am currently investigating why certain RX settings (ts,cc,tg filtering) can cause the radio to truncate the beginning of the recovered audio. I am making some good progress on this too !! es vy 73 de Bob W9YA

Hmmm....well, um....Hmmmm - - I made-up a minimal codeplug to test this....and it seems to require "Mandatory Promiscuous Mode" to be "ON" to work, which means it really doesn't do anything useful as far as I can tell. Even the instructions on the webpage you linked say; ..."So if the HamGroup is ON. It will receive any signasl from the HamGroup list. At the same time, if you turn on the promiscuous mode. it will receive all the signals from the HamGroups. ..."
Which is to say
Anyways, I am beginning to wonder about differences in the firmware between the DB25-D and the Retivis RT-73 .... Hmmmm .....

Well dont know what firmware you have but in the Video from Hamradio2.0 , he got a stock Radioddity and FW is older then the one we have from Kydera or Retevis. just go into FW download section and get the latest from Kydera

Well..yeah.....Ideally it would be nice IF I had a copy of all three fw loads....atm Radioddity is NOT releasing the firmware load that is currently in the radio. I am a bit reluctant to load something in and not have a way to go back. OR to even go back and forth to more clearly troubleshoot some of the issues I am writing about on my webpage.
Perhaps by this time next week, IF Radioddity doesn't have a new load to test/play with, then I will have turned my DB25-D into a "Retivis" or "Kydera" !! Hi HI !!
BTW, this group not only has a bunch of useful info, but the people are nice. Tnxs for the advice and the concern. vy 73 de Bob W9YA
