Hi everyone and Daniel the moderator .... I'm new to the group!
I just ordered a Kydera gd-300 as the Retevis twin is not in stock.
I seem to understand that they are exactly the same radio, so there you are I ask:
1) when it arrives I leave the Kydera FW and use both the new CPS just released and also the FW just released from the network, is it better? or what do you say you do?
2) what do I do as soon as it arrives? i use windows 10, do i need to install the drivers or are they not needed? and if the pc does NOT see the COM mail?
3) then if you recommend the FW kydera how do I proceed? I update the FW, then after I load the Codeplug I made myself, I update the OM database and that's it, correct?
4) AFTER FW update is needed to reset the radio or is it useless?
I hope to NOT find all and the many problems and BUGs that I read .... hi hi!
thanks to those who help me, 73 :-)

Hi everyone and Daniel the moderator .... I'm new to the group!
I just ordered a Kydera gd-300 as the Retevis twin is not in stock.
I seem to understand that they are exactly the same radio, so there you are I ask:
Yes Retevis RT-73 is fact a CDR-300UV and is made by Kydera. Any company that buy any Kydera radio with a minimun QTY of 500 can have their name on the radio. 1) when it arrives I leave the Kydera FW and use both the new CPS just released and also the FW just released from the network, is it better? or what do you say you do? First i would check with the radio front panel what is the installed FW from factory, then from the result if there is a newer firmware then it would be wise to update. As far as the CPS always use the latest CPS available for Kydera.
2) what do I do as soon as it arrives? i use windows 10, do i need to install the drivers or are they not needed? and if the pc does NOT see the COM mail? Usually not Win10 should see the radio with available drivers. For COM port when looking from the CPS it should have Prolific word beside the COM port.
3) then if you recommend the FW kydera how do I proceed? OK for Kydera radio always use Kydera FW, I know RT73 will work. To update the firmware you need to install the IAP utility software to be able to load the FW. Look in the appropriate Download section for it and should have a PDF document on how to. You will to put your radio in DFU mode. (DFU mean Development firmware upgrade mode)
I update the FW, then after I load the Codeplug I made myself? Well usualy on any radio you should build you codeplug after reading the original. Good practice is to read the original Code Plug and save it in a safe location outside the regular directory Ex: CDR300-Original.F136 Then you can use that code plug to build yours. The code plug you already made depend on which CPS version you did create it. If you used the most recent CPS then it should be ok.
I update the OM database and that's it, correct? For the Contacts database this cannot be save in CPS. The global Ham Contacts list is about 186k. Contact right now need to be imported in CPS with the Ham Contacts utility that is buit in the CPS. Then you have 2 choices for uploading contact, 16 bit or 128 bit. 16 bit will upload only Callsign and DMR ID Only and 128 bit will upload Callsing, DMRID, Name, Town, Prov/State and Country. Beware 128 bit will take approx 51 to 55 min to upload. Don't forget to use the WRITE button within the Ham Contact utility and not the one to write the Codeplug.
4) AFTER FW update is needed to reset the radio or is it useless? NO after update the FW the Radio will shutoff by itself to get out the DFU mode. Simply power it on.
I hope to NOT find all and the many problems and BUGs that I read .... hi hi! Well since the radio as been out last June 2020, Yes it was really buggy but most of the bugs have been solved or will be soon.
thanks to those who help me, 73 :-)

thanks Daniel for help!
I only read now, but this forum has NOT the notification of new reply messages by mail?
some doubts:
1) when I turn on and off I hear an annoying short noise in the speaker as if something crackles, BUG or just in my radio I hope it doesn't hurt?
2) ok set in SCAN LISTLIST 1 to put the channel being scanned in list 1 but what is the GCL voice for and what is it set? OFF or what?
3) in some radio links (not all) he does strange things like .. hear other TG while in that bridge I set my national news, what could to be ? other bug of the radio or codeplug?
An OM says that this radio sometimes has sync problems between the 2 slots ... but if it were true it should NOT do it on all radio links?
4) I did not understand but when the fan starts, after a few minutes in tx or at a given temperature of the radio or?
thanks for help. tnx 73
