A heads up
I received a CDR-300UV this week and found the power button was inoperative (i could only power off by disconnecting the supply) Also the radio would restart randomly.
I then discovered if i removed the Mic the problem went away Then i discovered I could use a standard kenwood 3.5mm/2.5mm mic and all was still fine
Problem appeared to be in the Mic
Not wanting the hassle of returning the unit I looked in the Mic and found two wires cut short (1 grey and 2 yellow) in the curly cable on closer inspection (actually wobbling the curly lead) it appears the bare screen conductor was touching the end of the cut short grey cable causing the issue Separating these and insulating with a dab of glue appears to have solved the issue.

Mal Congratulations. From what we have seen, the quality control is not very good. Regards

Mal Am i reading this correctly that we can use Kenwood style microphones on this radio?

Yes, that's right. On the left side of the radio is a kenwood connector.
