I run my CDR-300 from the accessory socket in my car. My car has the automatic motor stop/start feature which causes the engine to stop and restart when driving in traffic. Unfortunately every time the engine restarts it causes the CDR-300 to shut down and restart.
I have run my Yaesu FT-7900 and Retevis RT-90 and RT-95 from the same accessory socket without any issues so it seems the CDR-300 is sensitive to voltage variations on the 12V supply caused by the engine restart.

I have mine on a power supply in my shack, and it will still randomly restart every now and then throughout the day. Perhaps unrelated, I have put some ferrite cores on the Power Cable because I noticed that it was making some noise on 40m on my HF rig.

You can try to disable by cutting one lead of the capacitor , than no restart, you have to start manually when you switch off the power.

But how do OPEN the radio to make this FIX? 73 For me it solved two issues, the chrchr noise, when the radio is switched off, and the start/stop engine issue. The only thig now is, that you have two restart manually e.g after CPS upload etc, but that doesnt mind me.

You must peel off the two orange labels first to access the screws. Take special care with ribbon cables. It is difficult to reconnect them. You will lose the warranty, of course. If you peel off the labels carefully, you can reuse them.

This is great thanks for this information. I am thinking maybe one can install a switch to disconnect/connect the capacitor as needed. For the installation in my car I installed a switch on the positive wire. When I finished using the radio i turn off the switch. When i turn on the switch the radio turns on automatically.

This may sound crazy, but, when I have NO antenna connected, the radio no longer reboots every 15 minutes. Could it be this capacitor is discharging into the antenna line causing this constant re-booting ? Perhaps this is related to other problems.

ok is a good notice ! the procedure to OPEN the radio to do this fix 73 as its done since many years turn the screws, sri but if you dont know essentials you should let go the project I have just done this mod. 4 micro screws 2 top 2 bottom under the orange labels. When the screws are out very gently separate the front plastic from the aluminium pa case section. If you can get some fine cutters in to snip one leg of the electrolytic cap try and get in and separate the cut, do not stretch the cables or the ribbon cable. If you can't get in the disconnect the ribbon from the display end, by releasing the 2 grey tabs each end of the socket, go easy they only move 2-3 mm. I have tried both ends and it was easier to relocate the display end than the other. Make sure the ribbon is pushed well in to the socket and close the latch again full. Only handle the ribbon with plastic coated tweezer or forceps nothing sharp. All went together again and worked first time. Just take your time doing the mod and check everything before putting the case back together. Just as an aside note I was planning to drill some ventilation holes at the joint of the case as the fan is sucking air out of the case , but there is no inlet. But I will post a new thread with some pics when I do it. If you power up the radio and hold the fan in front of your face then separate the case the airflow from the fan doubles. Confirming the need for some inlet holes.
